MY PHILOSOPHY

I don’t want to change the people and places I photograph or judge them. It’s like that sign when you enter a National Park: “Take only photographs. Leave only footprints.” I just meet people and document their lives. I like to photograph the people no one else likes to photograph. Each person’s picture seems to say “Look at me. I am a person.” I’m proud that the connection -- their humanity -- comes through in the images.

I bought a good quality digital camera in 2005, but I shoot about half film and half digital. I mainly use a wide angle lens. It allows me to get up close and it helps keep the relationships more personal.

I shoot almost exclusively black and white.

First Friday

I had the pleasure of participating in the First Friday event presented by The Party Train and Three Hands Media. I unveiled my latest pieces: The "Hai" skateboard deck along with two printed pieces. I had a blast, met a lot of people and received positive feedback on the work. There were also two other mega artistic talents showcasing. The music was kick ass and the vibe was very cool. Thanx Archie and Jeff for the encouragement.

Thom Browne Fashion Show

NYC designer Thom Browne just staged his first show in Europe, and it had an artistic/theatrical edge to it. It had 40 models acting as 1950s office workers, all in unison. It looks pretty cool. The link below has a slideshow.

Hi all. I'm Mike, and I'll be giving some updates on arts events going on, as well as other info i find on arts and culture. I wanted to start off with a great site for finding paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and crafts that are made by local artists. Not only is it a lot cheaper than going to a gallery or art fair, but it also directly supports the local artists on the site. Also, if you have any work of your own, you can sell it on the site. The stuff ranges from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars.
The site is www.Etsy.com. You have to become a member to buy or sell on there, but it's free! The panels to the left and the candlesticks above are just some cool samples of the stuff on there.
